SYNOPSIS / Editorial Review about - Spring Time Affairs |
Springtime Affairs is an atypical melodrama of Cathay Organisation although it was shot when James Bond-type thrillers were enjoying sweeping box office successes in 1967, a time when Hong Kong was under the threat of social unrest. A veteran in melodramas, director Yi Wen touches the hearts of the audience with this story of an illicit affair between a young, talented and successful violinist and a popular singer. Yi was a writer in Shanghai (renowned for several romantic novels and a collection of love letters) before he entered the film industry. Several of his more[personal] films, like Forever Yours (1960), Because of Her (1963) as well as this, were reportedly based on his own extramarital affairs with his stars and collaborators. |
