A fierce struggle wages in the imperial palace during the Chosun dynasty. When Jang Jong-Oh wishes Young jo to succeed emperor Jeong Jo, he is mysteriously found dead. The emperor puts Shim Hwan-Ji of the Noron group in charge to investigate this case and also sends Lee In-Mong off to search for a book called Si Kyeong Cheon Kyeon Rok. In the course of these happenings with the help of another assistant called Jeong Yak-Yong, the final analysis reveals that Jang Jong-Oh was the victim of a conspiracy and killed through suffocation with poison.
Furthermore the Noron group finds out the secrets of the Si Kyeong Cheon Kyeon Rok. During the forceful struggle of the emperor 's son Sado for the hand of In Mong 's former wife Sang-A, the latter was given this book before Chae Yi-Suk 's death. After emperor Jeong Jo is informed about Jang Jong-Oh 's death, he immediately annuls the post of head official Seo In-Seong. The emperor made a strategic decision to delegate Shim Hwan-Ji to investigate in this case, hoping for a chance to diminish the strength of the Noron group
