SYNOPSIS / Editorial Review about - Gen Y Cops |
This is perhaps director Benny Chan idea of what a HK movie made in Hollywood should be. In what is a growing trend towards Hollywoodising the HK action genre - with higher budgets, special effects, more English dialogue and elements of apple-pie culture - this is undoubtedly intended as a crossover film into the most coveted of all markets. Funnily enough, it comes at a time when Hollywood itself is doing the reverse - incorporating more HK action traits into its productions. The premise seems simple enough, throw together a bunch of young good (Eurasian) looking brat-packers - spouting an abundance of Frat boy speak (or what they think stands for phat homeboy slang), high tech gizmos, blown-out CGI effects, MTV dance-like fight scenes and the familiar diabolical plot and you have a hit movie. The result is stylish eye candy with nary an engaging plot nor character development in sight.
