The scale of this movie belies the ambitions of Director $$ID=Teddy Chan$$ and lead actress Joan Chen. The exciting shoot-out sequences are on par with the standards of high budget Hollywood productions. The plot depicts Hong Kong's reunification with China in 1997. During Chinese premier Jiang Ze Min and US president Clinton's simultaneous visit, threatening news that the Khmer Rouge leader (Kam Kwok Leung) has smuggled chemical weapons from North Korea erupts. Anti-terrorist force leader, Ma Lap ($$ID=Emil Chau$$) has only 10 days to defuse the situation, with help from an ex-Khmer Rouge member To Tek ($$ID=Daniel Wu$$) who suffers from amnesia. Joan Chen plays psychologist Shirley, who wishes to let To Tak resume his life, against the wishes of Ma Lap who is keen to exploit To Tak to further his ambitions. Confronted with the conflicting choices of personal feelings and righteousness, To Tak wavers, heightening the tension as the deadline approaches. |
