Leopard ($$ID=Eric Tsang$$), a triad hitman diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, escapes from Brazil to return to Hong Kong with a bag full of American currency, a portrait and a cigarette box containing an unfinished cigarette (the film's title in Portuguese). His aim? To look for his old love, the woman in the portrait ($$ID=Shu Qi$$) He enlists the help of inner city youngster Smokey (($$ID=Nicholas Tse$$). Smokey's mother is a prostitute who wanders around Temple Street awaiting the return of her child's father, a man she has met only once, but who she remembers to be a policeman. In a case of history repeating itself, Smokey falls for a pretty lady cop. In time, Leopard and Smokey develop a father-son relationship, he becomes the sonless father to his fatherless son. The movie exudes a nostalgic charm, particularly in the flashbacks, depicting the young Leopard that his older self (now memory impaired) tries to recollect through the one remaining clue, the unfinished cigarette.
