Eighteen years ago, a palace maid took the newborn princess to flee from war. The princess has been separated from the emperor since. Their keepsake, the Dragon-and-Phoenix hoop, was also lost in the chaos. The princess grows up to be a fishing girl. Both she and fellow villager Kwai-fong fall in love with fisherman folk Leung Yat-sang. Kwai-fong's mother chances to possess the keepsake and by a hoax, has her daughter disguised as the princess. Kwai-fong's marriage with Leung is thus blessed by the emperor. The real princess, even with her royal status reinstated, fails to overrule the decision. |
