Tamiko is a young woman married to a crippled scoundrel. She works in a Japanese restaurant which offers privacy convinient for secret business meeting. There she has an affair with one mysterious customer named Kotaki. He is connected to a very powerful old man who manipulates Japanese economy and politics from the backstage. Kotaki tells her there are beast's paths in human's world. Most people don't even know they exist. But for those who dare to go, the paths lead them to the special places in this world. She agrees to go all the way. Although she has no idea where she is going to, and what his real motive is, she trusts him. As instructed by Kotaki, she kills her husband by arson. Kotaki prepares her alibi. Now she is free to go. Kotaki sends her to the house of the old man as a 'mate'. As she serves the old man, her position among servants in the house becomes more powerful. Meanwhile, one detective, who is not so decent but also not completely corrupted, is convinced that Tamiko killed her husband. Although the case was officially closed as an accident, he begins his own investigation... |
