SYNOPSIS / Editorial Review about - King Of Comedy
"King Of Comedy" has garnered much applause for being one of $=Stephen Chow$$'s best films to date. Performing roles in triplicate, namely director, screenwriter and actor, Chow's stint as director with longtime buddy $=Lee Lik Chi$$ is noteworthy. Chow plays a misinformed drama enthusiast with lofty thespian ambitions who embarrassingly garners much jeering. $=Karen Mok$$ is in full comic form as a celebrated movie diva but the true lead role belongs to $=Cecilia Cheung$$, HK cinema's current "It Girl" who plays a nightclub hostess in need of acting lessons to improve her seductive qualities. This is her breakthrough debut performance, which earned her a nomination for Best Newcomer in the 1999 Hong Kong Film Awards. Quite out of character, Chow plays the straight man with Cecilia providing the bulk of the film's comic relief.
